Today’s world is changing, becoming more advanced and modernized. Along these changes come a very fast paced way of life, and to be able to keep up, we need to hasten our pace too. Who would want to be left behind?
Unfortunately for us, keeping up with the times come at a cost… a very big one. In trying to keep up, we are forced to live life fleetingly, mechanically, and without care for ourselves. We focus on giving our everything to everyone else around us – our family, our jobs, our causes – that we forget to take good care of our most important weapon: our health.
Like the old adage goes, “health is wealth”. We have heard that advice a million times, to the point that it has become a cliché. But nothing is truer, or more meaningful than that statement. For in good health we find the ability to keep going and accomplish the things we need to do. And in the absence of health do we only realize how important it is.
In this article, we give you a number of simple yet effective ways to keep ourselves in top shape. These ways are incredibly do-able, and with regular practice, you just might find yourselves in your best state yet.
Eat Well – Eating well these days is both easy and hard. Easy because we now have a very wide range of food choices that include organic, freshly harvested crops straight from a farmer’s ground that are easily accessible to us. However, it is equally hard because along with the healthy choices come the not-so-healthy ones. Processed food, junk and fast food are cheap, convenient, easy to obtain, and let’s admit it, tastes so good! But to be healthy, we need to keep in mind that fresh is always better, and processed food shortens our lifespan!
To make sure that we eat well, we should make sure that we include lots of fruits and vegetables in our diet, keep our choices of fats healthy (extra virgin olive oil, or extra virgin coconut oil), stay away from processed food by learning how to cook from scratch, and drink lots of water.
Exercise regularly– Our daily lives are chock full of errands and seemingly endless things to do, and it’s hard to find time for ourselves. That’s why when we do find the time to finally do something we want, it’s hard to dedicate it to exercise. Often, we would rather sit on the couch and watch TV, right? Why would you want to tire yourself through exercise during that sliver of alone time that you have? Unfortunately, you are not doing yourself any favors by being a couch potato. The body needs to be active to burn excess energy, and unused energy ends up as fats. Nobody wants that! So, get up and exercise! Running, lifting, swimming and other rigorous exercises are ideal, but not mandatory. Someone who is busy and can only find a few minutes a day to exercise need not fret. Just dedicating 10-15 minutes of your morning to stretching, push-ups and leg raises can do wonders for the body. Walk instead of driving your car! Climb the stairs instead of using the elevator! Get up and move, and you are well on your way to a healthier self.
Sleep well– Complete rest is one of those things that are hard to obtain these days. Our 24 hours don’t seem enough to accomplish everything that needs to be done, and it is rest that gets pushed aside. Particularly, sleep is that one thing that we put at the back of our priority list, because we always tell ourselves that we can catch up with it later. But we never do.
It’s time to stop pushing sleep aside, and making it a habit to rest well. Train yourself to sleep early, so you can also wake up early. Make sure that you get at least seven hours of sleep, anything shorter than that is not sufficient. And make sure that your bedroom is conducive to good rest by having a comfortable bed with proper sheets, dim lighting, and a cool and serene ambiance. Try these tips and see how wonderful you’d start to feel!
Focus on your emotional well-being– A physically healthy self is a manifestation of good emotional health. Emotions play a big part in keeping a person’s organs fully functioning, hence it is important to not only take care of the body, but also of the heart and mind. Stress is a killer, and it has been proven many times over. Heart diseases, cancers, and organ failures all point to one intangible factor that cannot be healed by medicine alone. Therefore, it is highly essential to keep in touch with our feelings so that we can identify things that make us happy, and do more of those.
Natural therapies are great ways to keep ourselves emotionally healthy. Reiki, hypnotherapy and meditation are some of the most effective ways to connect with our inner selves. They have been practiced for centuries and have proven to be highly beneficial in elevating a person’s quality of life. And not only are they effective, they are completely natural too! No need for those chemical-laden pills and supplements that gives nasty side-effects. Natural therapies are a great way to connect with your emotions for a healthier, more glowing aura!
Remember, the road to achieving the best version of yourself starts within you. Getting healthy, and staying healthy is dependent on your will to achieve the results that you want. The ways need not be hard or complicated, but it needs to be consistent. Just follow that above mentioned tips and prepare yourself for a longer, healthier, and more enjoyable lifetime!
