What is Reiki?
Reiki is a form of hands-on therapy. It is totally non-invasive and very effective. It is easy to learn and very relaxing and healing.
The word ‘Reiki’ (pronounced ray-kee) means universal energy.
Reiki is effective in treating absolutely anything! Pain, discomfort and stress are the most common reasons people want a Reiki treatment.
What can I expect during a Reiki treatment?
During treatments it is usually experienced as gentle warmth, it aids relaxation and promotes a sense of calmness.
After a simple introduction, clients are requested to lay face-up on a massage table. Shoes and coats may be removed, but the client remains fully clothed throughout the treatment. The biggest misconception surrounding Reiki is that I will ask you to lay fully naked on my treatment table and wave my arms around you and have light come out of them!
Typically, the practitioner will follow a series of ‘traditional’ hands positions, but this may be modified to suit the client’s health, age, mobility etc.
At the conclusion of the (usually) hour-long session, the client may be offered a glass of water. When appropriate, the Reiki practitioner may refer the client to other healthcare professionals for specialised treatments.
There are no contra-indications for Reiki treatments.
How many sessions would I need?
It is up to you and there is no 1 word answer. A lot of clients book regular Reiki treatments to keep their pain at bay or for general health and wellbeing.
Experience and Qualifications
Reiki Association members practice Reiki in a manner compatible with all belief systems.
From 2011, these are the “Reiki Association of WA’s”, Teaching Standards; if you are going to learn Reiki you should ensure your training meets these requirements.
Teacher Training
- Should be at least a one year apprenticeship, and
- Include participation in many Reiki 1 and Reiki 2 classes,
- Based on clear agreement, which in part, precludes the new teacher from teacher training for at least 3 years. Teacher training may be offered after 3 years minimum Reiki 2 practice.
I received my Reiki 1 attunements over 30 years ago and have been a Reiki Master since 2009.
